Ham and Broccoli Quiche Can I Substitute the Cheese
My Bacon Broccoli Quiche is a delicious and simple breakfast or brunch recipe. Quick to put together, and easy to make in advance. Packed with fresh broccoli, bacon, and cheese.
Quiche is one of those meals that is versatile and so easy to make! I love to prepare my Bacon Broccoli Quiche for any meal- not just breakfast.
We love to make pancakes, scrambled eggs, French toast, and quiche for any meal. It almost make the taste a little better knowing that it is not served during it's "assigned" time-slot. However, quiche is a delicious brunch option because it can be made in advance with little hassle. It is delicious served with my Rosé Mimosas!
I love the combination of broccoli, bacon, and cheese. My Bacon Broccoli Quiche delivers in all of those categories! The flavor are delicious and it bakes perfectly. The top of the quiche gets nice and brown, but the middle is custardy and creamy.
Ingredients
- large eggs - If using medium eggs, add an additional egg.
- whole milk - 2% also works, but I prefer whole
- heavy cream
- cooked bacon - thick or regular cut work well.
- broccoli florets- I like to use fresh broccoli. If using frozen make sure it is thawed and drained.
- shredded monterrey jack cheese -pepper jack cheese is a delicious substitute- both melt well.
- shredded cheddar cheese- sharp to milk cheddar works great
- black pepper
- salt
- regular frozen pie crust - I do not use deep dish for my Bacon Broccoli Quiche recipe. A regular unbaked frozen crust works perfectly.
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350°F.
- In a medium bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and heavy cream together. Set aside.
- Place broccoli in the pie crust. Top with chopped bacon and cheese. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Pour egg mixture over the bacon and broccoli.
- Place pie crust on a baking sheet and place in pre-heated oven.
- Bake quiche for 40 minutes. The center should be set when given a gentle shake. If the center shakes, allow quiche to bake for another 5-10 minutes.
- Remove quiche from oven and allow it to cool for about 10-15 minutes.
- Slice and serve.
Frequently Asked Questions
I only have milk- will that work over the half and half?
The result will not be as cream, but it will work. That being said if you are using skim you need to stop, run to the store, and grab whole milk. 2% will work, but it is not as creamy and delicious.
Can I make this crustless?
Sure! make sure to use a nice pie pan and butter the pan to prevent sticking.
My quiche is jiggle when it comes out of the oven. Should I cook it longer?
The quiche should be jiggle, but you do not want to see pools of raw egg on the surface. Make sure you allow the quiche at least 5 minutes to set after it was in the oven before slicing. If it is still pretty jiggly after 5 minutes allow a few additional minutes for the eggs to set.
Should I serve Bacon Broccoli Quiche cold or hot?
Either! I typically warm the quiche, but it can be enjoyed at any temperature.
Can I freeze this quiche?
For sure! Wait until the quiche is completely cooled. Wrap in plastic wrap place in a freezer safe bag. The quiche will last in the deep freeze 5-6 months, and in a regular freezer for 3 months.
Do I need to cook the broccoli before baking?
No, I like to chop the broccoli finely and it cooks with the egg and cheese. However, if you want larger pieces you may want to lightly steam the broccoli.
